Episode #1: A day in life.

Over the last two weeks I've been thinking of ways of making this site more me. All this time, since I started this blog, I've tried to stay true to myself and my interests posting only the pictures/news/stories I mind and not what would give the blog more hits or even money. But, it hasn't been enough to keep my thoughts here (that's probably the main reason I also own El Megáfono). I want to vinculate fashion design with my other passions and I want to do it here. I want it to be inspirational for others in every possible way and I want this to feel as mine. The only solution I've found so far is making little collages that include episodes of my life and between pictures showing sometimes part of my wardrobe (don't want to do vertical standing up pictures, there are already amazing bloggers doing that). Also I want this blog to be an excuse for using my creativity (I've always loved graphic designed and lately, I've neglected that part of me). So, well, let's see how this works. Coming next, Episode 1.

The other day I was part of a surprise party organising crew. We threw a party for one of our university friends. Her birthday was on the 28th (Peru's independance day... which supposedly gave us 'freedom'... won't discuss that today) and we made 21 (she turned that age) cocktails with Pisco (a liquor distilled from grapes), which is pretty much an iconic drink for us peruvians (same as Tequila for mexicans, but stronger I would say). Having a flu was not an obstacle for having fun (although next day there were consequences, my throat hurt worse just to mention one). The weather was cold, so I wore a leather jacket and my mom's cozy pashmina scarf (she's a sweetheart, she lets me borrow it all the time).

Nail polish: Mint green (or something similar).

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
If something I’ve learnt this semester in uni is that colours in photography and video don’t exist, because color depends on how much (and what kind of) lightning relapses on the object we want to shoot. That could appear as a challenge if a faithful representation of reality is all we want or as a door to let creativeness flow if we give a damn about accurate reproduction. With a camera and modest lightning, we are set to become illusionists. And yes, that nail polish might be a little clearer than what the picture shows, but honestly: who cares?

Nasty gal: spreading the love.

Nasty gal is an online store with an interesting selection. Its buying department picks each item from independent brands (such as Jeffrey Campbell, MinkPink and wildfox clothing) and San Francisco vintage stores very carefully.

Theatre day.

Sometimes when making collages like this I think about a three days trip to an special city of the world and the pieces i would like to carry there. I'm a good traveler (well, my mom said that once and since then i like to believe it), I carry few stuff because I like to stay relaxed in airports. I have the idea of only carrying stuff that you're sure will be useful or you will wear, which means I don't pay much attention to situations that have almost no possibility of happening (For example: "taking a bathing suit if the weather gets hot in autumn" or "taking three black tees if one gets stained and the other got wet by the rain on the same day"). Plus, that gives me room in the suitcase for carrying souvenirs without paying over weight charges when coming back home. Today, I'll be travelling. Well, not in the word's exact sense. I'm going to the theatre tonight (The test by Lukas Bärfuss). Theatre, when visited with the right predisposition, happens to be an emocional trip.

The virgin suicides.

Sofia Coppola's first film is full of mystery and tenderness. I remember not being too excited about the story as I was with the art direction and soundtrack (most of you will recognize Air's playground love song from it), which happens to be one of my favourites of the USA film industry. The bedroom's decoration is dreamy as well as the Lisbon sisters' clothing. Ruffles, lace, vintage, ruffles, lace, vintage, ruffles, lace, vintage: that's mostly its beauty.

They're not real 'capes' (we all know capes are armless), but aren't coats either. So... how shall we call them? what about 'cape-coats'?

¿abrigos tipo capa?

July updates.

Los pelos.
Picture taken by me (from last year).

Hello, everyone. Major updates going on here (maybe you've noticed some). I decided yesterday that it was time for a change in the blog's look. The header is not ready yet, i'm thinking about making the letters a little bit less common in the next days (my sister was the first to tell me this one looks boring and hell, she's right). I've been searching for ideas here and there to inspire me, but however creativity hasn't arrived yet. I've also been thinking about adding new content to the site. I've created a couple of new sections ("Blog" and "About me"), which you can check out now even when they only share the basics (that's because I want you to find the rest by checking my posts, ha). I've also started writing articles about people interested in fashion that I consider interesting and talented (for matter of time, those haven't been translated yet to english, google translator could do well for now for those interested), so far I've had two great meetings: Claudia Hermosilla (colombian visual artist) & Lucía Cuba (peruvian psychologist and designer). The objetive of those articles is to see fashion from a different perspective and desmitify some stereotyped definitions (I'll expose my reasons soon, stay tunned!). Other than that, I'm adding since today a new topic called "Sunday" that will include some of my whims for that day, a list of things I do on days like this to avoid boringness.

Finally, I also would like to read about your opinions, doubts and expectations, I'm not popular for being much of a "dressing advicer" or "dress acording to your shape" person, but other than that I'd be happy to learn more about you (my visitors) and your interests.

--------

Brown.

I might start experimenting with brown tones soon, I've seen too much black in the last two years. Collage includes: Stella McCartney Pleated wool mini skirt, Straw Studios tote, Nail Polish from american apparel, Urban Outfitters and Topshop bags, Erica Anenberg connector ring, Chloé flats with straps, Asos leather clog with slingback, topshop crochet top, topshop shorts & Bess Zip-front leather leggings.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Long dresses.

Pictures borrowed from photographer Vanessa Jackman's blog (definitely my favourite streetstyle site right now).

After the massive mini-dresses trend, we could see this coming. Long comfy dresses are a great new option for any weather around the world, for girls tired of showing their bare legs every day and willing to cover them until their hearts tell them.
