New year's eve outfit ideas.

New year, new wardrobe, they say. I'm not sure on that. I haven't bought anything new for wearing tonight, I think I'll rescue something I haven't worn much and i'll mix up. Anyway, I did had fun today, not shopping, but putting together these concepts that may give you a little inspiration when getting dressed tonight. The first one is a playsuit, which I believe is a fantastic alternative if you don't want to go with the usual mini dress trend. The second has a pretty in punk vibe with golden accents. Finally, the third combo is more of what I love, simple basic outfits in which the accesories are the shining stars, also as the trousers are pretty conservative I think it would be a fun twist to wear a low back top. Año nuevo, todo nuevo dicen. No estoy muy segura de eso. Yo por lo menos no me compré nada nuevo para lucir hoy, creo que que rescataré algo que no me haya puesto mucho y haré una que otra mezcla. Sin embargo sí me he entretenido mucho esta mañana armando los siguientes conceptos que podrían servirles de inspiración al vestirse esta noche. El primero es un enterizo negro que resulta una divertida opción en lugar del clásico mini-vestido y va acompañado de accesorios que se imponen, como sandalias extravagantes y una cartera llena de aplicaciones. La segunda combinación es menos elegante, tiene una vibra más romántica, pero como no puedo con mi genio, combiné lazos y tul con un polo a rayas, así salió algo más del estilo "pretty in punk". La tercera imagen es básicamente más de lo que me encanta: la vestimenta luce clásica mientras que los accesorios iluminan todo. Debido a que el pantalón es bastante conservador, se me ocurre que pueden llevar un bvd de los que tienen el escote en la espalda. Espero la guía les sea útil y de paso mando mis mejores deseos para el 2010!

Dressing in Lima.

A pair of weeks ago I received a message from a girl named Lia. She, a peruvian girl just as me, commented on how difficult it was for her to follow trends here in Lima and asked me about how I managed to do that. The truth is she left me thinking until I come up with a conclusion: Do I actually manage to look trendy? I mean, from 1 to 10 my wardrobe gets only 5 for trendyness. Many of my clothes are not exactly in right now. I'm not saying I'm original (becase no one can be), but my references don't tend to be the ones most people have here, which come, as she mentions, from surf clothing catalogs. Any way, she asked me to tell her how I dress for a normal day, like those I attend university. I thought she was naming a very interesting context, because my style relies a lot on how long my daily trip to uni is (is usually wear very comfortable clothes, kind of baggy, that let me sit however I want, in any place). All of that made me think that perhaps it's not about finding the latest it items in a country like mine (that way, we'd get really frustrated), but about trying to find what we link and suits our lifestyle best.

Hace un par de semanas me llegó un mensaje de Lía. Ella, peruana también, me comentaba cuán difícil le era seguir tendencias aquí en Lima y me consultaba como hacía yo para ir de acuerdo a ellas. Me dejó pensando un rato hasta que llegué a la conclusión de que del 1 al 10 en tanto "estar a la moda" mi armario se estanca en 5; esto es, muchas de mis prendas no son necesariamente lo más del momento. Tampoco es que sea original (nadie lo es), pero mis referencias no tienden a ser las que por acá la mayoría tiene, pues, como ella menciona, éstas suelen venir de los catálogos llenos de ropa para surfistas. De cualquier forma, ella me pidió que le contara como me visto cualquier día informal, como aquellos en los que voy a la universidad. Me pareció un punto de partida interesante porque mi forma de vestir se ha visto en gran parte influenciada por lo largo que es mi viaje diario para llegar a mi centro de estudios (usualmente uso ropa cómoda, muy holgada, con la cual pueda sentarme como quiera, donde sea). Todo eso me hizo concluir que tal vez no se trata de seguir tendencias occidentales (nos frustraríamos en el intento), sino de ver cuáles se acomodan a nuestro estilo de vida.

Having said that, I took these pictures last week for her, at the end of a Wednesday I had just arrived from my German lessons (uni classes were over, sorry) The blue dress is one of my favourites at the moment, it used to belong to one of my aunts and it's kind of see-trough (so I wear a long tee inside). The animal print cardigan is from a department store.

Así, tomé estas fotos la semana pasada para ella, cuando justo volvía de mi clase de alemán el miércoles pasado (las clases de la universidad ya habían culminado, perdón!). El vestido es uno de mis favoritos del momento, es herencia de una tía. Es medio transparente, así que suelo ponerme un polo largo debajo. El cardigan atigrado lo compré de en Ripley (la marca es axxs).

The messenger bag is my favourite piece, it's wonderful because all my books can be carried in it. You can find leather stuff like that in peruvian handicraft stores for lower prices. I added black leggings and a pair of flats (the comfyness factor once again) that I forgot to photograph.

El bolso es la última maravilla que adquirí (estas cosas de cuero las pueden encontrar en alguna nde esas artesanías que están en Miraflores o en el centro), es genial porque mis libros A4 entran perfectamente. Añadí leggings negros y unas ballerinas (factor comodidad una vez más) que compré en Platanitos y olvidé fotografiar.

I use a minimun amount of accesories (keep it minimalistic as some might say), but I like wear long necklaces. This is a heart one I bought in Primark during my Europe trip this year. And with this, I'm out. Thanks, Lia, for giving me an idea for a post like this. I love it when visitors give me ideas, hope more people get interested that in the meantime.

Soy minimalista en tanto accesorios, pero tengo un especial apego por los collares largos. Éste lo compré cuando me fui de viaje a inicios de este año y me saca de apuros. Y con esto, me voy. Gracias, Lía, por darme una idea sobre la cual escribir. Me encanta cuando los que visitan el blog aportan, espero que pronto más gente se interese en este tipo de interacción!

I was tagged by Ale, Otra vez compré and Malú and to list 7 interesting things about me, but I could only think of six. "Interesting" sounds like a pretentious word, doesn't it? Don't worry, they don't have to be considered categorically interesting. Anyway, here I go:

• I've been saving money for months to buy a semi-professional camera. Perhaps I'll have it by the end of this year (Hopefully!).
• My favourite musician right now is Francois Peglau (check out his myspace)
• I hardly use msn, but I do use Facebook.
• I've attended two big concerts this year: Iron Maiden & The killers.
• I love accents and linguistic variety.
• I like feeling productive and making time for everything.

The bad blogger and the early christmas surprise.

I have to recognize i've been a terrible blogger these last two weeks and I'm sorry for that. The truth is, I've been busy, final exams preparation took all my spare time. Now I've finished my University third year (two years left to go), I'll have more time in my hands to spend online and I'll make it up to you.

Una tiene que reconocer cuando no ha estado lo suficientemente involucrada en algo. Tal parece ser el caso del blog. El quehacer universitario ganó y he estado preparándome y rindiendo exámenes finales. Ahora, finalmente acabado mi sexto ciclo, tengo más horas para dedicarlas a lo que me plazca y gustosamente compensaré mi ausencia.

On the other hand, seems like the peruvian postal service chose the perfect time for delivering a little price for my effort and finally received my first clothing freebies ever from the lovely Eknam at Sophixtix. She sent me five items from her store which looked exactly as pretty as they did on the website's pictures. The fabrics and quality are perfect as well as the fitting. I couldn't be anymore happy with the pieces, they all look so delicate. I took some pictures I'll share with your next. By the way, the store has just lauched some new items for fall, you must check out asap!

Por otro lado, parece que el servicio postal peruano por fin se animó a hacerme llegar un lindo paquete de parte de la tienda Sophistix. El paquete incluía algunos vestidos y blusas, quedé encantada. Tal parece que los obsequios se adelantaron a las fechas! (recibo regalos de este tipo dos veces al año: navidad y mi cumpeaños!).
